Woodlands is truly a gorgeous house. My extended family had it for a weekend in December 2025 and absolutely loved it. It is also great value per head, especially as a result of the huge bedroom capacity. It is ideally located just outside Settle, and there are plenty of walks to be had nearby. We actually had quite murky weather that weekend, but nobody was in the least bothered, because the house is so lovely to 'be' in and in fact that meant we interacted even more than we could have done on walks. I don't want to be too positive because I want to book it for the next (now this) year, and it's difficult in my family to get an agreement on dates! Thank you David for a lovely time.
We were lucky enough to stay at Woodlands over the Christmas period. The photos really don't do it justice - a lovely house in a perfect location. Just a short walk or drive into Settle with their shops and amenities, and so many walks on your doorstep. The house is huge and incredibly well equipped. It was very cosy and warm. We had 13 people staying - we all had plenty of space and there were still empty rooms. The Christmas tree in the hall was also a lovely touch. We would 100% recommend.
We stayed here over New Year’s with a group of friends and couldn’t have asked for a better place. The house was absolutely lovely - warm, cosy, and very well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
We loved having fires in the main rooms, which made the house feel extra cosy, especially in the evenings. The views from the house were stunning, and the bedrooms were beautiful and very comfortable. There was also a great number of bathrooms, which worked perfectly for our group.
Another highlight was the beautiful walks straight from the house, such a peaceful and scenic location. We genuinely loved our stay and would definitely come back again!
A perfect place to get a big group of friends together. Some lovely walks in the surrounding area and a perfect big table for a dinner party, we even saw the salmon leaping at Stainforth! Had the most perfect weekend, we would love to come back!
Lovely house in beautiful surroundings. For such a large property it was surprisingly warm, as the heating schedule was generous to provide a cosy environment. Would love to stay again in the summer to fully enjoy the beautiful views. Great place for a large family/friends get together, or in my case a warm, comfortable place to stay after a hard day's work.
Fantastic family stay at David’s place. The view is simply stunning. Lovely walk into local village with nice coffee shops and pubs. We had a great stay and the property is amazing. Thank you!

We were a walking group of 12 mainly retired ladies who wanted a few days walking in the beautiful countryside around Settle.
The house was exactly what we wanted as we were all able to have our own bedroom, and we had plenty of space to relax. The dining room was perfect as we were all able to sit down and eat together on both evenings.
The house was warm, clean and comfortable and in a beautiful location just 10 mins walk from the centre of Settle. It was well equipped and we had everything we needed. We would love to come back next year.
Great few days. House is perfectly located at the end of the village, so you get the feel of being away from everything, but everything's walking distance. Great views from several rooms and outdoor area. Despite there being 12 of us, the house never felt cramped, would fully recommend.
The property is amazing, very large, plenty of space, all rooms were clean, plenty of crockery pans etc, beautiful surroundings and a responsive host…what more could you ask for?
I stayed here to celebrate my 30th birthday with family and friends. We all loved the property! Plenty of space for everyone and the two dogs. The dining room table was big enough for us all to have a toast for my birthday. The break out rooms (living room and billiard room) were perfect to relax in. The living room had a very cosy feel to it. Naturally we gravitated in the kitchen, however there was plenty of space in there and seats. There’s plenty fridge and freezer space which was perfect as we stocked up for the weekend. The bbq was small considering the occupants of the house, but we used the oven and BBQ which worked perfectly. We found the pressure of the water dropped, however this was usually when a number of us were using the bathrooms so it’s expected. 10/10 property, would definitely stay again. David has been amazing to answer any questions. Claire the housekeeper was lovely too. Thank you for making my 30th memorable!
Woodlands gave us the most magical weekend! I don't usually write reviews, but feel compelled after booking for a family reunion. It proved to be the perfect choice. With its secluded location, fabulously vast, ever changing views of the Yorkshire Dales, this beautifully restored period property provided something for everyone. The children were never bored with exploring and hiding around the house and gardens (does a panda live in the bamboo den?). The youngest enjoyed hearing the trains whistle as they left Settle and watching them across the valley. There were plenty of comfortable social spaces for the adults to relax and unwind. The musician of our group entertained us with some tunes on the piano. The kitchen facilities perfect for our self catering group. Beds were incredibly comfortable and night time quiet. We really did feel connected to nature with the bird chorus. We stretched our legs along the woodland track which gives direct access to the Yorkshire countryside and also to the two dog friendly pubs just down the hill. We didn't even hop in the car when we needed a few supplies, Settle market town was a 15 minute walk. It was the ideal place to connect with our loved ones, so many special memories made. True escapism. Thank you David (and canine companion Olive). We really do hope to book again.

This is an incredible find - the views were amazing and the house itself is wonderful complete with open fires and a piano. The kitchen is well equipped and the 2 dishwashers were very helpful. Every room is beautiful and the great number of baths and bathrooms is excellent too. We had an outstanding stay.
Spent Early May bank holiday weekend at Woodlands with Polytechnic friends. Woodlands was a fabulous base to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales and dining room perfect for 16 people to eat at.
What a house! We always love our stays at Woodlands House, beautiful interiors, stunning views and a perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The house is grand and elegant but also has such a homely feel, also perfect that it is dog friendly so the whole family can join! Owner David and lovely dog Olive are the most welcoming hosts. We have stayed at Woodlands on many occasions and we will be going back for years to come. David is an incredible host and nothing is too much to ask. The house is stunning and harks back to a time long forgotten. Every room is thoughtfully put together and a pleasure to spend time in. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are many wonderful walks from the front door. Woodlands is dog friendly, perfect for our dog Archie!! I can't recommend Woodlands House and David enough. You have to see it for yourself!
